S4•E26 | The Art of Biblical Skepticism, Fauci’s Emails, BLM resignations, & Who’s Going to Parent YOUR Kids?

Christians need to learn the art of Biblical skepticism:  Know the Word so you can avoid the idiocy of the world! The government is not your friend, your truth, or your parents. Yet we live in a time in history where we think the government should take care of us, provide for us, and make our lives complete.  This is in large part due to society having turned away from Biblical ideals and turning toward the government for the support and structure that we so desperately need.

We have a Biblical OBLIGATION to weigh everything we hear and we must rely on the Spirit to give us wisdom and clarity… and NEVER EVER just blindly follow the “science”/”loudest voices”. Ephesians 4:14 says, “so that we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in deceitful schemes.” A lot of the wind of doctrines are coming from the “secular church” through governmental control, the wielding of science for power, and organizations like Black Lives Matter which are at odds with Biblical values.

They are some of the reasons why we Christian parents need to be vigilant in cultivating a love and desire for God in our children. There’s a battle going on for the souls of your children.  If you don’t step up and fight, you will lose and your children will be lead down a path that you will one day weep over. We see this truth reflected in the life of David and the apathetic relationship between himself and his sons Absalom and Joab.

As Christians, we must realize that when something is rooted in bad soil, everything that comes out of it will be corrupted. The Word of God must be the filter by which we interpret all data.  We must learn to look critically at culture because culture should not interpret the Bible for us– the Bible should interpret culture.  We as the Church must stem the tide in our families, our homes, and our lives and do right by our generation so the next generation lives and thrives in the power of the Almighty God.

Key Verse:

“Beloved, do not believe every spirit but test the spirits to see whether they are from God for many false prophets have gone out into the world.” (1 John 4:1)

Theme:  Who’s Parenting Your Children?

Scriptures Studied:  Ephesians 4:14; 2 Samuel 14;2 Samuel 15:1; Proverbs 13:24; Proverbs 19:18; Proverbs 29:15; Proverbs 30:17; Hebrews 12:6-12;

Further Study:

Points to Note:

Reminder, the story of Saul & David is Our Story:

  • Saul: [Kingdoms of this world] Self-Centered, Demanding, Disobedient to God, Seeks His Own Glory
  • David: [Kingdom of God]  Other-Centered, Giving/Self-Sacrificing, Obedient to God, Seeks the Glory of God

Kingdom of Saul | Self-Absorbed and Insecure | Passing Away

  • Every moment is about himself
  • Everyone is suspect
  • Everyone is a threat
  • Willing to kill for his kingdom
  • Estranged from everyone he loved
  • On the road to self-destruction

Kingdom of David | Self-Less & Dependent on God | Arriving

  • Wounded by the Lord
  • Made useful to those wounded in the world
  • Contrite, Compassionate, and Hungry for God
  • Made ready to serve others

Symbolism:

  • Joab represents the government that wants to take control of people’s lives.
  • Absalom is a picture of a narcissistic, petulant child.
  • 2 Samuel 14:8-11 is a picture of the Gospel where Jesus incurs the guilt to bring us back to God.
  • The Ravens noted in Proverbs 30:17 are symbols of death and speak to this time in our culture where children are disobedient to parents and mock the aged.  A culture that scorns the aged will become blind in time.

Episode Points:

AVOIDING PARENTAL APATHY:

  1. Commitment to the ASSEMBLY (Hebrews 10:25).
  2. Commitment to DISCERNMENT of the times (1 John 4:1).
  3. Commitment to SELF FEEDING on God’s Word (Matthew 4:4).
  4. Commitment to GIVING/SERVING the Gospel (Hebrews 13).
  5. Commitment to DISCIPLINE/INSTRUCT of your kids (Eph. 6:4/Prov 22:15)
  6. Commitment to REPENTANCE/CONFESSION (1 John 1:8-9).
  7. Commitment to GRACE/MERCY for others (Matthew 5:7)

David’s Parental Failure

  1. Apathetic toward his parental responsibilities
  2. Detached himself from the misbehavior of his children
  3. Required no discipline, punishment sense of justice
  4. Offered no forgivingness/grace
  5. Was led by conniving influences of the world instead of God’s Word

God’s Parental Guidance

  1. Whole life involvement with parental responsibilities
  2. Seeks to save his children from mistruth misbehavior
  3. Disciplines those He loves (Hebrew 12:6)
  4. Offers forgiveness/grace
  5. Ignores worldly wisdom and acts on the truth

Recognize the Following:

  • We have a Biblical OBLIGATION to weigh everything we hear and we must rely on the Spirit to give us wisdom and clarity… and NEVER EVER just blindly follow the “science”/”loudest voices”.
  • God gives us the Bible, pastors, and leaders in the Church so we can know what’s true and what’s not in our context.
  • Once you have children your life becomes how the glory of God will be reflected in their lives.
  • It is hard work to discipline your children.
  • Parents must be peacemakers between siblings and cannot show preferential treatment.
  • Absalom’s hair was what he valued most about himself and it would eventually lead to his undoing.  In the same way, if you let self-centeredness live in your children it will kill them.
  • A culture that scorns the aged will become blind in time.

Questions to Consider:

  1. What are your thoughts about the government’s influence on our lives?
  2. What are some things influencing our children?
  3. How would you evaluate your parenting (or mentoring/disciplining)?
